Children’s Dentistry

Oral health plays a major role in the overall health and well-being of children. Our office provides expert services to children from infancy to adolescence which includes examining the health and condition of the teeth, gums and soft tissue. In addition, the dentist will monitor the growth of the jaw, development of the teeth and evaluate any habits that can affect the oral health of the child, such as thumb sucking, teeth grinding, or nail biting.

Dental Cleaning

Procedures whereby calculus commonly known as tartar, stains and other accretions are removed from the crowns and roots of the teeth and the enamel surfaces are polished.

A dental restoration consisting of a white composite, silver amalgam or other material that is inserted into a prepared tooth cavity to repair a cavity.

A plastic film coating that is applied to and adheres to the cavity-free chewing surfaces of teeth to seal pits and fissures where plaque, food, and bacteria usually become trapped. The surface to be treated is isolated to ensure that it is not contaminated with saliva. It is then cleaned with a brush and pumice cleansing agent or microabraded, dried, and etched with a phosphoric acid solution. After the acid has been washed away and the tooth has been dried, the sealant is applied. Dental sealants are reported to reduce the incidence of caries in children’s teeth by 50%

Gum Therapy

Gum Therapy (or Scaling and Root Planing) – is the most effective way to treat gum disease. The dentist cleans between the gums and teeth, down to the root. Your dentist may need to use local anesthetic to numb the gums and the roots of your teeth while the procedure is performed. It is important that individuals with gum (periodontal) disease have this procedure done.

Crown and Bridge Restoration

A Crown is a cap shaped like a tooth that is placed over a tooth, to restore its shape size and strength, and to improve its look. There are different materials used to fabricate crowns, and all crowns are fabricated so that they are nearly identical to the tooth being restored. This ensures that they fit in and match the surrounding teeth.

A Bridge is designed to bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. Bridges are composed of two crowns which are anchored on natural teeth or implants and are placed on either side of the gap. The crowns are called the “abutment teeth”. A artificial tooth (or teeth) is connected between the two crowns.

Root Canal Therapy

A Root Canal is where the tooth’s nerve and pulp are contained. If a tooth is damaged or infected, the nerve can be affected and must be removed. To do this, your dentist will take a very fine file to enter the canal and remove the nerve and pulp. This is known as “root canal therapy” and is used to save teeth that might otherwise have to be extracted. In most instances, a crown is placed on the tooth after this procedure to provide strength and help avoid future problems.

An extraction means to have a tooth removed, usually because of disease, trauma or crowding.

Dentures are removable prosthetics that are designed to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Two types of dentures are available: Complete and Partial Dentures. Complete dentures are needed when all teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when a few teeth are missing in the mouth.

While dentures may never feel or fit exactly like natural teeth and may take time getting used to, they restore functionality so that you can talk and eat.

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front side of teeth. They are an option for correcting stained, chipped, decayed or crooked teeth.

Teeth whitening treatments are used to change the color of your tooth enamel and is an ideal way to enhance your smile.

Night Guards/Sports Guard

Night Guards are used to protect teeth from the damages caused due to grinding of teeth during sleep.

Mouth Guards, also called mouth protectors, help cushion a blow to the face, minimizing the risk of broken teeth and injuries to your lips, tongue, face or jaw. They typically cover the upper teeth and are a great way to protect the soft tissues of your tongue, lips and cheek lining.
